Card has a pink stripe across the top of the card with markers for many fixed-length fields. Product code “JTC 15788” is printed in the bottom margin.
The card has column numbers for every column, below the 0 and 9 rows. The card has a number of fixed length fields labelled “Est Avail”, “Factory”, “S”, “Qty”, “JS/JW No.”, “Item Description”, “Finish No.”, “CUSH”, “Dealer Price”, “Cust Price”, “Factory Pattern No”, “CAT”, “SUB”.
John Stuart Inc. was a furniture manufacturer and importer operating out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States of America. The company was formed in the early 1930s and in the late 1930s also acquired a controlling stake in John Widdicomb Company, another furniture manufacturer based in Grand Rapids. The company sold their products through showrooms throughout the USA.1
This card appears to have been a purpose printed card for data entry regarding furniture product orders. The field labelled “JS/JW No.” likely indicates both John Stuart Inc. and John Widdicomb Co. were using product numbers managed by a single system, and may have shared computing equipment.
