Техноинформ began as a punch card manufacturer on the outskirts of Riga, Latvia in 1967. In 1972 the company was renamed to Техноинформ, the experimental factory for the production of technical storage media (Техноинформ being a combination of the Russian words технических носителей информации [technical storage media])^[1].

Following the breakup of the Soviet Union the Техноинформ company appears to have been broken up, with both Russian and Latvian companies bearing the name and trading in similar goods^[1][2].

Cards manufactured by the factory appear have been distributed throughout republics of the Soviet Union with specimens in the archive’s collection found in Ukraine and Latvia.
